Biography of Marco A. Villegas, Ph.D.

Dr. Marco A. Villegas has served with distinction in public education for over 30 years. His extensive career encompasses a variety of roles including classroom teacher, Principal, Director of Learning and Teaching, Associate Superintendent, and currently Superintendent. Dr. Villegas holds a Ph.D. in Urban Educational Leadership from Claremont Graduate University, a Master’s and Bachelor's degree from California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA). His studies at these institutions laid the groundwork for his impactful career in education. Alongside his professional achievements, Dr. Villegas is deeply committed to his family and considers his roles as a husband and father of five to be his greatest accomplishments.

In his current role as Superintendent of the El Rancho Unified School District, Dr. Villegas has been instrumental in shaping the mission and vision of his district. He has spearheaded the development of a comprehensive graduate profile and overseen significant milestones, including the prestigious "Schools to Watch" recognition for two schools and the advancement of major construction projects such as a new sports complex.

Dr. Villegas is actively involved in several esteemed professional organizations. He is affiliated with the National Center for Education Research and Technology (NCERT), the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA), the California Association of Latino Superintendents and Administrators (CALSA), and the National Roundtable of Superintendents.  He is the President of Excelencia Latina and also serves as a board member for the Pico Rivera Chamber of Commerce.

A respected voice in the educational community, Dr. Villegas has presented at conferences nationwide and co-authored articles in various publications. His contributions to the field have been recognized with numerous awards, including the 2023 Alumnus of the Year Award from Claremont Graduate University, an honor bestowed on only ten doctoral alumni. Dr. Villegas has also served as a distinguished professor and guest lecturer at several universities, including CSULA and Azusa Pacific University.

Dr. Villegas's career has been dedicated to improving educational outcomes and fostering environments where students and educators can thrive. His leadership continues to have a profound impact on the communities he serves.
